I created this video using images from Flickr and the Photo Story 3 program which you can download free of charge from Microsoft's website (you could also use Window's Movie maker which you already have on your PC). Why don't you have a go with your favourite song? When you've finished you can upload it to YouTube (you'll need to register) so that others can see it.

1 ) Because the writer of this song wants to pass the message that we are supposed to wake up and react to what the government is doing behind our backs.
2) King, Martin Luther, Jr. (1929-1968), American clergyman and Nobel laureate, one of the principal leaders of the American civil rights movement and a prominent advocate of non-violent resistance to racial oppression.
3) He led the historic March on Washington, August 28, 1963, where he delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. The following day King was shot and killed in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1964 King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
4) The Americans were fighting witht the South Vietnamese against North Vietnam.
5) Malcolm X (1925-1965), black American leader, born in Omaha, Nebraska, as Malcolm Little. In 1946 he was sentenced to prison for burglary. While in prison, Malcolm became interested in the teachings of Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Black Muslims, also called the Nation of Islam. When Malcolm was released in 1952, he joined a Black Muslim temple in Detroit, and took the name Malcolm X .In 1964, Malcolm broke with the Nation of Islam and formed a secular black nationalist group, the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU).
6) On February 21, 1965, while addressing an OAAU rally in New York, Malcolm was assassinated by men allegedly connected with the Black Muslims.
7) Because in the Matrix movie all the peole were slaves and they didn’t know it, so they couldn’t wake up.
8) It means that if you don’t wake up soon you’re gonna bear the consequences.

in my free time i go out with my friends and have fun!!!

i think that wars are bad in any way...people should understand each other, otherwise no one will be satisfited...if someone for example wants to regain their land, they shouldn't make a war...they could solve their problems in an another way...others make a war to expand and most commonly for reasons we might not understand but are important to powerful governments. However some popularities like the muslim community fight for their religious beliefs. For example the terrorist attack in the twin towers on the september the 11th.

I believe that a war may be good depending on the reason. If the result of war is selfish or economical(ex.a country having more lands or something like that) then it is a bad war, but if a war has a good reason(ex.free a race) then you can say it is worth it.There is of course the possibility of being an evil genius who wants to rule the world then the war would be good only for you. Last but not least there is a kind of war where no one knows what's he fighting for and people and civilians are killed for no reason.

Wake Up - Rage Against The Machine

"Come on!
Uggh!

Come on, although ya try to discredit
Ya still never read it
The needle, I'll thread it
Radically poetic
Standin' with the fury that they had in '66
And like E-Double I'm mad
Still knee-deep in the system's shit
Hoover, he was a body remover
I'll give ya a dose
But it can never come close
To the rage built up inside of me
Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy

Movements come and movements go
Leaders speak, movements cease
When their heads are flown
'Cause all these punks
Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
You know they went after King
When he spoke out on Vietnam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Yeah!
Yeah, back in this...
Wit' poetry, my mind I flex
Flip like Wilson, vocals never lackin' dat finesse
Whadda I got to, whadda I got to do to wake ya up
To shake ya up, to break the structure up
'Cause blood still flows in the gutter
I'm like takin' photos
Mad boy kicks open the shutter
Set the groove
Then stick and move like I was Cassius
Rep the stutter step
Then bomb a left upon the fascists
Yea, the several federal men
Who pulled schemes on the dream
And put it to an end
Ya better beware
Of retribution with mind war
20/20 visions and murals with metaphors
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
Ya know they murdered X
And tried to blame it on Islam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Uggh!
What was the price on his head?
What was the price on his head!

I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard, I think I heard a shot

'He may be a real contender for this position should he
abandon his supposed obediance to white liberal doctrine
of non-violence...and embrace black nationalism'
'Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers... and neutralize them.
Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers... and neutralize them
and neutralize them, and neutralize them, and neutralize them'

Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!
Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

How long? Not long, cause what you reap is what you sow"

For next wednesday I want you to;

1 Post a paragraph explaining what you think about this statement;

"There is no such thing as a good war."

(50 -100 words)

2 Take a photograph (no bigger than 200kb) connected with leisure and
post it on the blog. The best picture will win a prize.

Remember that if you don't do ex (1) you will not be considered for ex (2)

Later on we will send our photos to the BBC in order to take part in their
young photographer competition.

Don't forget to say if you think Mary Taylor should take the job or not. I posted the photocopy we used in class to help you remember the situation (just click on the image a couple of times to see it more clearly).

Also I'm glad to see some of you did some research on Tiananmen Square. Make sure the rest of you have something to say about it in the next lesson.

1) I think that Mary Taylor shouldn't work because it would harm her daughter and make her have even less time to spend with her kid.
2) 1989:Massacre in Tiananmen Square
Several hundrend civilians, who had occupied the square for seven weeks refusing to move until their democratic reform were met, have been shot dead by the Chinese army during a military operation to crush a democratic uprising in Peking's (Beijing) Tiananmen Square.
